Protein biophysics
Webb8 nov. 2024 · Proteins, as one of the most abundant macromolecules of life, have countless functions ranging from catalyzing vital biological reactions to transporting nutrients. Likewise, lipids also play integral roles such as storing energy or being a major component of a membrane [12]. WebbThis research project is motivated by a lack of knowledge pertaining to the molecular biophysics of the interplay of lipids and proteins—the structural and functional workhorses of life. The focus will be on palmitoylation, the covalent attachment of palmitic acid to a protein's cysteine residue via a thioester bond.
